OSGi Cloud Computing RFP 133

I'm quite excited by the work that is being done in the OSGi Cloud Working Group recently. In this working group we are looking at what role OSGi standards can play in a Cloud Computing environment. Currently we're focusing on the possible requirements in RFP 133. Both OSGi Alliance members as well as non-members are involved in defining this document.

If you're interested, have a look at the RFP. It's available as an attachment to this bug in the public OSGi Bugzilla system: https://www.osgi.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=114. Feel free to comment!

If you're interested in becoming more involved, join the OSGi Cloud Working Group mailing list: https://mail.osgi.org/mailman/listinfo/cloud-workshop.

  1. Why can't we have documentation in a decent format, like HTML? I'm not going to download OpenOffice or LibreOffice or whatever just to try and read it. It might be brilliant, for all I know ...

  2. Hi Alex, this is not yet documentation - it's a living document. Once the spec is finished ultimate JavaDoc will be available in HTML and the spec will be available in PDF.

At this stage we need a format that supports collaboration, change revision etc. At OSGi we all use OpenOffice (or any of its variants like NeoOffice) and I thought most people had that installed.

In any case, I have attached a PDF version of this document to the bug now too. Hope that works for you.

  3. Hi, I could see that RFP133 was accepted.
What is the next step for it become a spec? Is there a bug item where we can track it too?
    thanks

  4. Hi Christiano,
In the OSGi Alliance there is currently work underway to come to a technical design for some of the requirements specified in RFP 133. Currently the main focus points are RFC 182 and RFC 183. This work is done by OSGi members. If you work for an organization that is a member (see http://www.osgi.org/About/Members) and want to get involved, contact me (david.bosschaert at gmail.com) or help@osgi.org. If you are interested in becoming a member, see here: http://www.osgi.org/Join. In the mean time, Early Access drafts are regularly released, this one contains an EA draft of RFC 182: http://www.osgi.org/download/osgi-early-draft-2012-10.pdf
